Thoughts from the road - Who are you?

Everybody knows the story of David and Goliath - mostly. David shows up to check on his brothers, hears the Philistine running his big mouth, asks who that punk thinks he is to dare to insult the army of the living God and God Himself, nails him with a stone from his sling, takes Goliath's own sword and chops his head off. Then (as he's carrying the giant's head around) he's taken to King Saul who - after hearing what he said he was going to do and then doing it - asks him, "Whose son are you?" He had heard from David and saw what he did - now he was concerned with his lineage.

Most Christians, if asked "whose child are you?" will quickly answer with their mom and/or dad's name - just like David did. A few will answer that they belong to Jesus. But what we have to come to grips with is what that entails - everything else that comes with being His child.

Sadly, a large portion of Christians live under a false humility. They claim to be someone and something they're not. They say they're a "sinner saved by grace." They live a "religious life" of what they call humbleness, but in the natural world they scream and yell and fight for their "rights" and what they think they deserve and are entitled to. How hypocritical can you be?

If you're saved - if you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, you're NOT a sinner anymore. That's what you WERE (Romans 5:12). At the moment you were reborn, old things passed away and were made new (2 Corinthians 5:17). The old you is dead and gone. That sinner doesn't exist anymore! You may commit sin, but you are not a sinner by nature anymore. You've been given a new nature and a new "self" (too many scriptures to list). Jesus has made you righteous! (Romans 5:19, 2 Corinthians 5:21) You can't be both! Either you're a sinner and separated from God (Isaiah 59:2) or you're righteous - in right standing with Him. It doesn't matter how you feel about it - your feelings will lie to you (Jeremiah 17:9) - or what someone else may have told you (i.e. "religious indoctrination") because the philosophies and traditions of men make the Word of God to no effect (Colossians 2:8, Matthew 15:6, Mark 7:13). The natural mind cannot grasp the things of God - the things of the Spirit (Romans 7:8), so stop trying to make sense of it and just believe what God said!

Hear me now. Listen closely...

Stop walking by the flesh. Stop looking at the flesh. Stop considering that you are what your body wants to do.

You MUST learn who you really are - how God sees you.

Number one - saved or not, you are a spirit. Your body is not who you are. When your spirit (who you really are) leaves your body, your body will die and return to the earth from where it came (Genesis 3:19). How do we know you're a spirit? God is Spirit (John 4:24) and mankind - you - everyone - was made in His image (Genesis 1:26-27). You are a spiritual being having a human experience (quote by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin).

Number two - if you're born again, you're a child of the Living God. You have been adopted into His family (Romans 8:15, Galatians 4:5, Ephesians 1:5). As His child you are an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ (Romans 8:17). An inheritance doesn't do you any good when you die - it's meant for you while you're alive! If you're great aunt Susie leaves you $20 in her will, when do you get it? When you die or when she dies? (I'll pause while you think about that...)

Good news friend! Jesus has already died to provide an inheritance for you! And He was resurrected to be the executor of His estate (Hebrews 9:15)!! You inheritance belongs to you now! "Eternal life" doesn't begin when your spirit leaves your body and goes on to Heaven - NO! Eternal life begins the very moment you accept Jesus!

Number three - you have already been seated with Christ in the heavenly places (in the spiritual realm) (Ephesians 2:6). Who sits in the presence of a king? Other royalty! Peasants and commoners don't get to do that. You're seated! You're sitting at God's right hand with Christ! Wait... what? Yeah! You. Are. Royalty. Jesus has made you a king and a priest under God the Father (Revelation 1:6, Revelation 5:10). Who do you think scripture talks about when Jesus is called King of kings and Lord of lords (1 Timothy 6:15, Revelation 17:14, Revelation 19:16)? STOP ACTING LIKE A PEASANT!

Continuing on... When you're born again, you become a citizen of the kingdom of the heavens - not Heaven where God lives, the heavens - the spiritual realm. And you are seated with Christ there! Where is He seated? At God's right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come (Ephesians 1:20-21). THAT'S where you're seated! That's your position! Not only when you're off this planet, but right now!

There's more in the video. I'm not going back through it all again. Learn who you are. Do a study on "in Him" "in Christ" etc. Read Ephesians 1-3 to see just how much God loves you and what He's done for you in Christ. Pick up my book Black Belt Christianity: Ephesians for an expository text on the book. Friend, you must know who you are. You can't serve as an ambassador of Christ properly if you don't.

Practice the love of God.
